There are different clocks in one advertisement
The promotion clock tells you how long the introductory price applies. The commitment clock tells you how long you agree to buy the service. The renewal clock tells you what happens when that agreement ends. These clocks can have different lengths. Never replace the full contract with the price printed in the largest type.
At this source review, the IONOS VPS page pairs its introductory offer with a three-month promotion and a one-year term. This is an example of why the promotion period and commitment must be read separately, not a promise about tomorrow's checkout. Our current offer pages retain the source retrieval time and purchase conditions. Reopen the official page before paying.
Build a charge worksheet
Copy the details from the actual checkout for your chosen plan and account region. Keep the currency, billing period and tax treatment beside each amount. Mark unknown amounts as unknown; an empty field is a reason to investigate, not permission to substitute the introductory price.
| Charge | What to record | Where to confirm it |
|---|---|---|
| Introductory service | Rate, eligible months and commitment | Plan terms and checkout |
| Later service | Rate after the promotion and renewal conditions | Contract summary |
| Extras | Backups, licenses, storage, addresses and support | Selected options and their billing terms |
| Tax and currency | Whether tax is included, charged separately or determined at checkout | Final invoice or checkout summary |
| Exit | Cancellation notice and charges for resources retained | Cancellation documentation and agreement |
Use a formula without inventing the inputs
For a fixed-term comparison, use: total commitment cost = introductory rate × introductory months + later rate × remaining months + mandatory fees + selected extras + applicable tax. Every input must come from the relevant provider's checkout or agreement. If later charges or tax are unknown, do not claim a total or savings percentage. Usage-based services require an additional workload estimate and a separately identified rate schedule.
The cheapest advertised month can therefore differ from the cheapest plan over your actual project lifetime. Compare the same period and the same required features. A prepaid annual commitment and a flexible server are not interchangeable just because both display a monthly amount. We deliberately avoid ranking an offer solely by a crossed-out price.
Read network language carefully
Traffic allowance describes a quantity of transferred data; bandwidth describes a rate. Neither, on its own, tells you the application's response time. When a page says unlimited traffic, check the terms that accompany that exact product. Ask about acceptable use, throttling, excluded destinations and any plan-specific restrictions. Do not import conditions from a different provider or region.
Check eligibility and cancellation before ordering
A promotion may depend on the account, location, payment term or product variation. Follow the official purchase path and read the final summary. Do not buy through an unofficial reseller to obtain an unverified coupon. If a trial or refund policy is relevant to your decision, check what it covers and whether add-ons have different conditions. Cancellation, refund and deletion are separate actions; none should be assumed to imply the others.
Record the agreement you accepted privately, with an order reference, and set your own review reminder before any relevant deadline. Do not post invoices, bank details or account identifiers in a public issue. After cancellation, check whether disks, snapshots or other separately billed resources remain. The provider's billing documentation is the authority for what continues to incur charges.
